The Caged Bird
Paraphrasing Stanza 1: The poem begins with a striking image of a free bird who is flying with the wind.The wind carries along the free bird. The circumstances are favourable for the free bird. Then the bird glides smoothly along with the currents of the wind. This means that the bird is flying unrestrictedly and can enjoy the beauty of the sun. The free bird is bold enough to assert his rights over everything. Stanza 2 : The second stanza shows the completely contrasting condition of caged bird. While the free bird lives in the circumstances that are in his favour and claim the entire sky as his own, the caged bird lives in a cage which is very narrow, confined and restricted. He can only move up and down in frustration in his confined area. Moreover the caged bird can’t see outside of his bars of cage, he can hardly see anything from the bars of rage.
